Our beloved son and brother Paul T.K. Stockhoff passed away 17-August-2005. He was 16 years old. It was during one of the annual family vacations, this one centered around the Grand Canyon (see the pictures from that trip and other trips here (password required, see Special Note below)).
The vacation had been very good before Paul's accident, one of our best ever. Of all the things we saw, Paul best loved the petroglyphs of mammoths at Kachina Bridge in Natural Bridges National Monument, and the Grand Canyon. He especially enjoyed Mather Overlook on the South Rim and Walhalla Overlook on the North Rim. It was on our third visit to that last overlook that Paul, running too fast, accidentally fell into the canyon. The rangers told us he died instantly.
This is a little site from Paul's family to anyone else who knew Paul. He enriched our lives in ways we cannot express and we will never forget him. It is our hope that others will enjoy this site and remember Paul, his talents, and his gentle spirit.
This site is nowhere near completion, so check back from time to time. Photos and especially artwork will be continuously added. If there is demand for a comments page for Paul, we may add one.

Site Overview
Home: This front page of the site.
About Paul: Biographical information. Includes a nice remembrance written by his friends at El Tigre, his high school's newpaper.
Paul's Art: Drawings created by Paul. Much of it was done when Paul was very young. Unfortunately, he had little time during his last year for drawing, so there is only one major picture from his high school year. By the way, the frame around his picture above is a doodle he drew in his 8th-grade yearbook to frame the CD-ROM inside the front cover.
Photos: Pictures taken of Paul. See the Special Note below.
Special Note about Passwords: The Photos and Trip pages contains pictures and names of Stockhoff family members and other people. In order to protect their privacy from the whole wide Internet, that section is password-protected. If you knew Paul or know the family and wish to see that section, please send email to the webmaster of this site (link at the bottom of the page) and we'll send you the password.
Memorial Awards
Three memorial awards have been established by the Stockhoff family in Paul's name. These are perpetual awards, with a monetary award and certificate presented to the recipient and their name engraved on a plaque on display at the school.
The eleventh annual awards have just been presented. The recipients are selected by the staff of the presenting schools according to defined criteria. A description of the awards, and the recipients, are below:
-
Rose Drive Elementary presented the Paul Stockhoff award to a promising 5th grade artist. The recipient for 2016 was Guan C.
-
Yorba Linda Middle School presented the Paul Stockhoff award to a promising 8th grade artist. The 2016 recipient was Nikki F.
-
In May 2016 the Valencia High School Japanese Club and the Stockhoff Family presented the Paul Stockhoff award to a graduating senior intending to continue their study of the Japanese language. This year's recipient was Viviana C.
Acknowledgements and Thanks
The Stockhoff family would love to publicly thank the following people and organizations. They all provided moral support and other help at a time when we really needed it.
- The National Park Service crew at the Grand Canyon North Rim. Although we don't know the names of everyone involved, we'd like to specifically thank rangers Mark McCutcheon, Jennie Albrindl, Carmen Perdas, and Ranger Pat. Words cannot express our gratitude for their professionalism, expertise, and compassion on the worst day of our lives.
- Cory's sister and Paul's aunt Ann Pazdra for the tremendous help and support she gave the family in the difficult days right after Paul's death.
- Cory's cousins Eunice and Dean Hardee and Connie and Ed Law, and Uncle Mark Akaka for their help and moral support.
- Everyone at Rose Drive Friends Church, who were so kind to our family and provided a beautiful memorial service for Paul.
- Pastor Greg Anderson presiding at Paul's service, who was so easy to work with and who gave a comforting and meaningful sermon.
- Lori Anderson, pastor Greg's wife, who sang a lovely song at the service.
- Scott Wetzel, friend of the family, who contacted Rose Drive Friends Church for us.
- Neal Taylor, another friend of the family, who stepped in to play music at Paul's service.
- Everyone at Apani Networks, Cory's employer, for all their help, support, and continued understanding.
- Keikilani Lyons, Mel Napu`unoa, and the members of Na Mamo, who provided leis from Hawai'i for our family members as well as the food at the service.
- Dr. Tony Mazzaferro and the members of the Fullerton College Community Band for their support.
- Julie Richardson and all the staff at El Tigre, the newpaper of Valencia High School. When we asked them if we could run a thank-you ad in their paper, they responded by interviewing us and others (thanks Joe and Chris!), publishing a nice remembrance of Paul, and allowing us to post it here.
- Paul's friends from Rose Drive Elementary, Yorba Linda Middle School, Eldorado High School, and Valencia High School. Their friendship to him in life and to the family now are especially appreciated and meaningful to us. In particular we'd like to thank Hillary and Briana for speaking at his service, and the nice notes to the family from Ethan, Matt, Stephanie, Melanie, Brent, and Aldo.
- To Hayley, Ethan, Emily, Holli, Elise, Sarah and Lorena Crow for writing down nice remembrances of Paul, and to Brenda Fuog for organizing and presenting it to us.
- All the other friends, family, neighbors, schools, and community members who supported us then and continue to do so now.
